Tsavo West and Tsavo East make up the largest protected area in Kenya (Tsavo East is the largest of the two parks).
The sheer vastness of Tsavo can make it a little more difficult to spot everything but it is home to most of the larger mammals, including vast herds of elephants, rhino, buffalo, lion, (the Tsavo man-eating lions caused the death of a number of construction workers on the Kenya -Uganda Railway from March to December 1898), leopard, pods of hippo, crocodile, waterbucks, lesser Kudu, gerenuk and abundant birdlife (over 500 recorded species). It is most popular with visitors to Mombasa and Malindi or people making their way down to the coastline from Nairobi.
