Aberdare Ranges Hiking

Aberdare Ranges Hike From Nairobi

On the Aberdare Ranges Hiking Tour, we shall kick off early from Nairobi. We shall carry our snacks and have picnic lunch in the park.

There are several access gates, and we shall choose the route that will maximize your experience based on the amount of time available, your target sites and locations, as well as the amount of walking you would like to do.

Summary Of Aberdare Ranges Hike from Nairobi

There are routes that allow you to hike a longer stretch to one of the Aberdares Peaks e.g. the Elephant Hill Hike (This is the most famous route on the Aberdare Ranges Hiking Tour). On these routes, you will drive to the base of the mountain range and then hike on foot to one of the peaks and back to the vehicle. Other routes can be done more gently, such as the Karuru, Gura/ Magura and Chania Waterfalls hikes. On these waterfall hikes, you will drive slowly to the starting point as you enjoy wildlife viewing. You will then walk down to the waterfalls and then hike back to the vehicle. We shall spend as much time as possible transecting different locations within the park. In the afternoon, we shall choose the best exit gate, on our way back to Nairobi where our lovely Aberdare Ranges Hiking Tour ends.

How to Prepare for the Hike

  • Engage in active cardio exercises such as aerobics, walking, running, cycling, and swimming among others the week prior to the event.
  • Set aside the day before the hike for resting--take a break from exercises.
  • Set your mind up for conquering yourself. Hiking is more about your mindset than physical preparation. Once you win the battle in your mind, everything else contributes less than 10%. You can do it!
  • Increase your hydration at least two days to the hike.
  • Have a generous breakfast at least 3 hours before the start of the hike. This ensures that most of the food has been digested by the time you begin the hike, giving you the much-needed energy while ensuring your stomach is not too full for comfort.
  • Purpose to get enough rest the night before the hike.
  • If on intermittent fasting or on a diet, take a break in the period one day before and after the hike. This way, you will build up your energy reserves for the arduous task ahead.
